Like YJK76, I too, got a PS 3.  There was a deal to get not only $150 by using the Sony credit card (which I already had, so I had to get J to apply), but another $100 off by buying two Blu-ray movies and one game.
It was a deal sponsored by Amazon.com, so you had to choose from a specific set of movies and games.

I chose Iron Man and Blade Runner for the movies, and Little Big Planet for the game.

I normally don't splurge like this but:
    1) it was a good deal
    2) our wedding was filmed in HD, and we have Blu-ray disks of the wedding
    3) I wanted it for Street Fighter IV

Anyway, if you're a Street Fighter fan, there is a collector's edition for both XBOX 360 and PS3.   Having just moved into a new home, and getting married recently, I did not want to splurge for this either!  But I've been playing SF since I was in 10th grade (around '92) and couldn't pass this up, especially once it's gone, it's gone.

Also, there is a free strategy guide in the latest issue of HGM.

  • i'm still waiting for the ps3 to hit under $200 before i ever buy that thing.

  • @jw1976 - you serious?  talk about being frugal!!!

  • my hubby downloaded street fighter (purchased through the online network).  he's been playing that game since way before you and spent a lot of money (in quarters) at the arcade.
how do you like little big planet?  i played it twice or so and stopped playing.
oh yea, i didn't like any of the blu-ray deals so i didn't take advantage of those blu-ray deals.

  • @YJK76 - i still don't think the machine and the games are worth picking up a ps3 for. i don't even have an HDTV, so i can't take advantage of the features and no backwards compatibility!

  • there aren't many games for the PS3 that are my kind of games so i agree on the lack of games worth buying the PS3 and yes, if you don't have an HDTV then not worth it either.

  • @YJK76 -

Not trying to create an online battle here, but we probably played it for the same amount of time. I played SF2 as soon as it came out in the arcades, and I thought (mistakenly) that it was 10th grade. 10th grade was around '92 and when it came out for SNES, but now that I think about it, I do remember playing it in '91 as well. (9th grade).

  • @KENSHIR0 -

the moment i saw 10th grade i just assumed you were super young like the rest of the xangans but i think he's been playing since around the same time as you, hehe.
if you give me your PS3 alias you guys could play SF against each other. my hubby has been out of practice for too long so he's not as good as he used to be.

  • @YJK76 -

yeah, i think we're about the same age, give or take a year. i'd love to have someone to play SF against. my ps3 should arrive tomorrow and once i'm setup, we can exchange aliases.

i'll try out LBP and let you know what i think of it.

  • nice! I have both PS3 and Wii...normally use PS3 for the more adult type of games. I was playing SF games since I was in 8th grade also...but after all the different versions and character, I lost track of it...but this new version looks very cool!

  • Congrats on your marriage!!!  I wish the both of you well.
